Fulfilling my quota

Posted by brianrants on January 24th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

I used to feel an incredible pressure to be nice. Always nice. Don’t get me wrong, overall most people that know me would say I’m a really nice guy.

But I’ve also realized I can be a real ass. I think I was so focused on trying to be nice that I couldn’t admit I have a daily quota of grumpy responses, arrogant comments, and generally selfish actions.

This morning Sha and I met a friend at Snooze, and waited in the ever present line in order to experience the bliss of their pancakes. As we stood with 20 other people crowded just inside the door, two young women stood with the door open, talking, letting in all the cold air.

Now as a side explanation, I am a terrible whisperer. I think I am whispering but every one can hear me.

So I “whisper” to Shannon very maturely “I love that they are letting all the cold air in.” Of course the girl hears me and gives me a overly dramatic “sorry.”

As we went to our table a few minutes later, I poked my head into her conversation and apologized for being an ass, I was tired and hungry…she smiled and laughed.

I should’ve explained I was only getting a head start on the days quota.
